LB Stone Blanton (6-2 220) of Madison, MS Wednesday cut his list to a final three of USC, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. He has been a baseball committed to Mississippi State, and he plans to play both sports in college, but his decision will be football-based.
In June, Blanton made official visits to USC, Louisville and Stanford. He said that weekend in Columbia, when he also met with baseball coach Mark Kingston, was enough to convince him to have the Gamecocks on his short list.
“The relationships with the coaches really sold me on them,” Stone said. “Just being able to hang out with them all weekend on the official was awesome. They are really pursuing me pretty hard on the recruiting side and just telling me where I fit in. They’ve been showing me the defense a little bit, so it’s good.”
Blanton said he’s in regular contact with USC defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clayton White, as well as his recruiters from the other two schools.
Blanton said he might take another unofficial visit to Mississippi State next week. He’s also planning to take official visits to Texas A&M and Mississippi State during the season. And he said he will return to USC for a game though a date has not been determined.
Blanton said he will wait until after his last two official visits before making his decision.
