STRecruiting: Irmo OT Nate Carson shares the latest on his recruiting as his spring practice winds down

Coaches have been making their way to Irmo High School to check out all the talented players on the Yellow Jackets squad. Getting a lot of the attention, of course, is standout OT Nate Carson (6-5 270).

Florida State was in to see Carson on Wednesday. Coaches from Clemson, Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia, and Duke have also been by. According to Carson, South Carolina has not yet been in for a visit.

Carson will begin his official visits at the end of the month. He will be on hand for Clemson’s primary official visit weekend starting on May 29th. Carson said things remain solid with the Tigers.

“It’s going good, honestly,” Carson said.  “I’m loving everything I’m hearing.  They have definitely risen on my list.  Blake Miller getting drafted first round, I work out with him.”

After the Clemson visit, Carson is scheduled for Texas A&M, Tennessee, and USC the next three weekends. Just like Clemson, the Gamecocks remain a strong contender.

“It’s going great,” he said.  “I’m loving everything I’m hearing from them, too.  I’m loving everything from all the schools.  South Carolina, it’s going great.”

Georgia was also on Carson’s final five list, but he’s not yet scheduled an official visit there. He said Florida State and Texas Tech are two others coming on strong of late, and he has talked with his parents about official visits with those two.

Weeks ago, Carson named Tennessee as his favorite. Two weeks out from his first official visit, that hasn’t changed. But, he said, he is by no means locked in with the Vols.

“South Carolina is right behind them, then Clemson,” he said.  “I love all the schools, honestly.”

Carson set an announcement date of July 3rd months ago, and that, too, remains unchanged.
