An important decision has been made for one of the best prospects in the country. For months, 2028 Edge Asher Ghioto (6-5, 240) of Jacksonville, FL, has been weighing his options for a potential reclassification to the 2027 class this summer. As of now, Ghioto has decided to play out his high school career.
The Bolles School defender recently explained his decision, and it sounds like much of it stemmed from the strain it would place on his academic life. Still, he’s begun to lay out plans for what comes next.
For starters, he is certainly returning to Clemson this summer. Now, whether that is for Dabo Swinney’s high school camp or something separate remains to be seen, but the love for Swinney’s program is playing a major role in his recruitment.
Clemson will begin offering 2028 prospects in just a few weeks, and it is tough to imagine Ghioto won’t be among the first to receive a public offer for the 2028 class.
“The offer would mean a lot,” he explained. “I love what Clemson stands for. The faith-based component is big for me, and I feel it’s a place I can grow as a man, too.”
Ghioto hopes by this time next year he will have made his decision, and plenty of other top programs will continue their pursuit of his services. Outside of Clemson, Miami, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Southern California, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame are among the programs that have made the biggest impact thus far in his recruitment.
With his decision to remain in the 2028 class now finalized, it’s a marathon for one of the best prospects in the country.
“Right now, I’m wide open in recruiting,” Ghioto said. “I want to make the best decision for me, and I feel taking my time is important. I want to go where I am needed and can develop.”
Last season, Ghioto recorded 84 tackles with 23 sacks and 35 tackles for loss. As a freshman, he had 66 tackles with seven sacks and 21 tackles for loss.
