Founders Park
  • South Carolina lost its ninth straight game and finished the home schedule at 18-18. The Gamecocks also extended their program record for losses to 31, while Winthrop won its 31st game of the season and broke a 14-game losing streak in the series, which USC now leads 29-8.
  • It’s the Eagles’ first win in Columbia since 2015. The Gamecocks finished 6-6 against in-state opponents this season.
  • The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the third with a sac fly and an RBI single that scored a runner from second.
  • USC responded with a run in the bottom of the third on a sac fly by KJ Scobey.
  • Ethan Wilson gave the Eagles a 4-1 lead in the fourth with a two run homer.
  • Luke Yuhasz led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to make it a 4-2 game. The Gamecocks went on to load the bases with two outs before Jack Reynolds struck out swinging on a 3-2 pitch.
  • The Gamecocks got the first two runners on in the sixth but could not advance them. Those were their last baserunners of the night as Winthrop reliever Colby McNeely retired all nine batters he faced, striking out three.
  • Winthrop added a final run in the eighth with two outs as a runner on third scored before a runner could be thrown out at second on a wild pitch.
  • The Gamecocks finished with five hits, only one with a runner on base, and they were 0-8 with runners in scoring position. They were 0-10 hitting with two outs, and struck out 11 times.
  • Connor Chicoli (2-3) pitched into the fourth and allowed four runs on seven hits. Logan Prisco followed and left after two batters with some arm discomfort. Cooper Parks, Zach Russell, and Alex Philpott finished up and allowed one run on two hits.
  • Shane Keup started and went the first three innings for Winthrop. He allowed one run on three hits. Radyi Guzman (1-4) followed and gave up a hit and a run over two innings. Dylan Hansent pitched one inning and then McNeely shut the door over the final three frames for his second save.
  • USC is 22-31 and closes out the regular season Thursday through Saturday at Vanderbilt. Winthrop is 31-21 and will host Longwood for a three-game series starting Thursday.
