Key Stats for GT: 3-7 last year with no bowl appearance. Return 7 starters on offense and 10 on defense. That should help improve a unit that gave up 37 ppg and nearly 460 yards per contest. The Yellow Jackets ranked next to last in both scoring and total defense last year in ACC rankings.
The squad was extremely young last season as the program had just eleven seniors on the roster. This is Collins’ third season at the helm of the Yellow Jackets and his retooling of the program from triple-option to the spread is slowly taking shape. Freshman QB Jeff Sims rushed for six touchdowns and threw thirteen more last season, but he’ll have to cut down on his thirteen interceptions from a a season ago.
The key to success for GT will be how the Yellow Jackets navigate a schedule that includes road trips to Clemson, Miami, and Notre Dame, along with home matchups against North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Georgia.
