South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and DC/Linebackers coach Clayton White have put a lot of recruiting time into LB Ja’Bios Smith (6-3 220) of Swainsboro, GA, and they will be rewarded with one of his upcoming official visits.
Smith camped at USC last summer, then attended four games last season. He also made a visit for a junior day in late January. He will make one final visit with the Gamecocks for his OV experience on June 12th.
“I have a great relationship with Coach White and Coach Beamer,” Smith said. “They like that I’m fast and can get downhill, and have good length. They were one of the first schools. The ones that are recruiting me are still there, haven’t moved yet, so I feel good about it. And I’ve got a good relationship with Coach Beamer. I love his energy. He’s ready for me to get back down for the OV.”
Smith will begin his official visits at Florida May 29th. Texas A&M is scheduled for June 5th, and Georgia is down for the last scheduled visit on June 19th. Texas Tech is also in the picture.
As he takes his official visits, Smith said there will be three boxes to check off at each stop.
“Enjoy myself. Somewhere where I feel like home. And they have great people,” he said, adding that he does not have a current favorite, and he does not have a commitment date.
Last season, Smith had 72 tackles with eight tackles for loss.
