  • With a four-run sixth inning, Virginia Tech hit the magic number against the Tigers. Clemson is 25-0 this season when holding its opponents to fewer than five runs
  • The victory snapped Clemson’s six-game winning streak at English Field. On Friday afternoon, the Hokies will go for their first ACC series win against the Tigers in Blacksburg since the 2009 campaign
  • The story of the game was Virginia Tech pitching. Starter Brett Renfrow gave up just one run on six hits with five strikeouts in 7.1 IP. For the third straight ACC outing, Renfrow began the game with five scoreless innings. Preston Crowl recorded the final five outs of the game with 2 K’s and three ground outs
  • Henry Cooke got the scoring started for the Hokies with an RBI single in the first inning, the third of four hits in the frame
  • It remained 1-0 until the sixth, when Tech recorded a baseball rarity. As a team, the Hokies hit for the cycle to break the game wide open. Pete Daniel laced a run-scoring triple for the Hokies’ fifth hit of the game to up the lead to 2-zip. Pinch-hitter Hudson Lutterman followed with a ground-rule double that scored a run, and then Owen Petrich hit a two-run homer to complete the four-run outburst and secure the game. Sam Grube completed the cycle with an infield single to the pitcher
  • Clemson avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the seventh as Tyler Lichtenberger singled to score Jack Crighton from second base. Crighton doubled with two outs to put himself in scoring position
  • The two teams will continue their series on Friday afternoon at 3pm
