Weather permitting, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his staff will host recruits on Saturday and Sunday, the last days they can see some of their targets in person until March. One of those planning to be in is TE Jake Sneed (6-6 235) of Houston.
New USC offensive coordinator Kendal Briles knew Snead from his days at TCU. But Briles didn’t have to introduce Sneed to Gamecock tight ends coach Shawn Elliott. He was already familiar with him.
“I was getting recruited by TCU last year, and me and Coach Briles talked a little bit,” Sneed said. “I went to camp at TCU. Me and Coach Elliott had been in contact throughout this past season. We’ve been talking more after the season, and he invited me to come to Columbia this weekend. Me and my family are excited about that. We’re definitely going to be there.”
Last season, Sneed had 22 catches for 333 yards and five touchdowns. Elliott has not yet offered Sneed, and the two haven’t talked about how he would be used as a tight end, but he hopes to hear more about all of that this weekend.
“He just said, man, I love your film and need to get you up here,” Sneed said. “I think he really likes my film and likes what I do on the field. If I had to describe myself, it would probably be as a three-down tight end. I can pull and knock off an edge. I can run a ten-yard route and catch the ball with some yards after catch. I think I can do it all, personally. Whatever the coach needs me to do, I think I can do it.”
This will be Sneed’s first recruiting visit of the year. In March, he plans to see Tulane, FIU, UCF, Louisiana, and possibly USF.
Sneed was offered by Yale on Thursday. He also has offers from Georgia State, Samford, Jacksonville State, FIU and Memphis.
