LB Zavier Hamilton (6-2 222) of Navarre, FL visited USC for the first time in March of 2022. He made his second trip to Columbia to see the Gamecocks this past Saturday. Hamilton arrived Friday night and went to campus early Saturday morning so he could watch the team prepare for their first scrimmage of spring practice.
“I showed up early, sat in their meetings and then I went and watched their practice,” Hamilton said. “They are a hard working team. It shows in everything that they are doing. They are really putting in the work this off-season.”
When Hamilton was first recruited by the Gamecocks. he dealt with secondary coach Torrian Gray. Now a year later, a couple of inches taller and a few pounds heavier, Hamilton spent more time with linebackers coach Clayton White.
“This time I was hanging out with Coach White, because based off my film this year, and me growing more, they are actually looking towards me playing that inside backer position,” Hamilton said. “I’m cool playing anywhere on defense. I love it. He said he loved my film. He said I’m one of their top priorities. He’s really looking for an inside backer like me that can really read the guards and the tackles and play like that.”
Hamilton has been working with a top ten of USC, LSU, Auburn, Florida State, UCF, Notre Dame, Georgia, Arkansas, Kansas and Michigan State. He will name a top five April 10th, and those five will get his official visits. Hamilton, who lived in Beaufort until the age of six, feels the Gamecocks are in good shape to make that shorter list.
“They are up there. I really love it up there,” Hamilton said. “It’s where I’m from. I’d love to play there. It’s definitely one of my top choices.”
Hamilton visited Auburn in January and Kansas in early March. He is going to Florida State Thursday and then back to Auburn for their spring game on Saturday.
