The Allen University Yellow Jackets from downtown Columbia are trying to be the little team that could. Underfunded and with facilities that could be called bare at best, the Yellow Jackets just want to play football. And they want to win. They are in the transition period from NAIA to NCAA D2 and eventually will compete in the SIAC.
Coach Teddy Keaton started the program five years ago. Last season his club went 4-5 with an offense that averaged 443 yards and 28 points per game. But the defense yielded an average of 400 yards and 37 points per game. The Yellow Jackets will open their season Saturday night at Newberry College.
