The recruiting story with DT Nate Kamba (6-5 300) of Charlotte is simple. It’s either South Carolina or Auburn. Kamba narrowed his list to those two from a long list of offers that also included Kansas State, Texas, Louisville, Maryland, Georgia, Missouri, Southern Cal, Florida State, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, North Carolina, and others.
This past weekend, Kamba made his official visit to Columbia for his final in-person look at what head coach Shane Beamer and defensive tackles coach Travian Robertson have in mind for him.
“It was great. It was very, very special,” Kamba said. “Got to see a whole lot of players that committed there. I met a lot of the coaching staff. They are wonderful people. Of course, me and Coach Robertson talk every day. I haven’t seen him in a while in person, so it was fun to see him again. And seeing Coach Beamer, he’s a wonderful guy. He loves to compete. We had a strength presentation during the visit, and he was making us do this workout thing. It was not too crazy, but this was a workout that their South Carolina players do. It was pretty interesting because I had never done it before. We did a little challenge, and Coach Beamer joined during the competition. Actually, he won. He loves to compete, and that’s something about South Carolina. They love to compete. They care about the players, they care about the community. The whole experience was great.”
Kamba added that he was very impressed with the talent the Gamecocks have in their defensive line room now, and how Robertson planned to use him once he arrives.
“I’ll be inside from probably the three to two, the one, just moving me everywhere,” Kamba said. “They’re going to put me in the best situation for me to make plays. And one thing about good about Coach T Rob, all of his drills and everything they do with practice translates in the game. So you’re not just going to do some random thing in a drill and practice. He’s going to put us in the right position to make plays and to get sacks.”
Kamba said his weekend with the Gamecocks went so well that the thought of jumping on board before leaving did cross his mind.
“I’m not going to lie, it was close,” Kamba said. “They did a great, wonderful job. And they’re very, very real. Coach Beamer, real. Coach T-Rob, real. I love Coach (Clayton) White, too. Defensive coordinator, I love him. Great dude, great guy. They just love to get after it on defense. And they have a very good team this year. Right now, they’re the underdogs. Watch out for them. They have a very good squad.”
Kamba said right now he plans to make his decision next week following his official visit to Auburn this weekend.
