STRecruiting: South Carolina in the final two with DT Nate Kamba as he begins his official visit weekends

DT Nate Kamba (6-3 300) of Charlotte will make official visits to USC and Auburn the next two weekends, and then he’ll decide if he wants to be a Gamecock in the Capital City, or a Tiger on The Plains.

Kamba visited USC for a game last season, and he returned for a spring practice in March. He’s being recruited by defensive tackles coach Travian Robertson, and is looking forward to this weekend to take a deep dive into the program.

“Just to see how it is down there, see all the players, see all the coaches, just see all the staff,” Kamba said. “See who’s really real, and who’s not real, to see how everybody treats each other and everything like that.”

Kamba said Robertson tells him regularly how close the people are in the program, and when they way welcome home, they mean it.

” It’s a great brotherhood,” Kamba said of Robertson’s message. “They work hard, and they have fun together. And when it’s time to lock in, they lock in. And, they’re going to take great care of you. You’ve got to come down there, work hard, and compete. Just show them that you’re ready because the SEC is the toughest conference, and it’s not easy. So you’ve just got to come down there prepared. I’m gonna get opportunities. They would move me around from the one to the three to two and all that good stuff.”

Robertson had put USC in a good spot with Kamba, but while recovering from his serious car crash last August, the communication dropped off somewhat between the program and Kamba. Meanwhile, Auburn has been a steady recruiting presence. But Robertson has made up the ground on the Tigers to make this a two-horse race.

“It’s really tight, really close,” Kamba said. “Really close because Auburn has been recruiting me since last year. Now, South Carolina has been recruiting me longer. But with the situation that happened with Coach T-Rob, that whole thing stopped. So we weren’t talking for a long time. Then, when Coach T-Rob got back, we started talking again, and it just went up from there.”

Kamba said after the Auburn visit, he plans to take a little bit of time before relying on his “gut” to make the decision, with an announcement probably in July.

In seven games last season, Kamba recorded 28 tackles with 16 tackles for loss and three sacks.
