South Carolina offensive coordinator Kendal Briles is making the rounds in Texas, and on Wednesday, he made a stop to see a familiar face. WR Brody Knowles (6-5 190) of Southlake was offered by Briles when he was at TCU. Now, together with Gamecock receivers coach Mike Furrey, Briles is recruiting Knowles for the Gamecocks. So, Wednesday’s visit was more of the same between the two.
“It’s always a good time with me and Coach Briles. We have a really good relationship,” Knowles said. “He just stopped by to check in with me and see where I’m at in recruiting. He wants me to get up there in whenever and set my OV with them. May 1st hopefully is when I will go up there. I’m looking to set one with Colorado right now, and I have TCU, Kentucky, and Arkansas. Those three are still good and set in stone.”
Briles emphasized to Knowles how he likes to have tall receivers for his flanks, and he would fit the mold of some current Gamecock receivers.
“He was pushing how much he could see me fit in that offense,” Knowles said. “They’ve got two tall receivers, obviously, Nyck Harbor and the new guy, Jayden Gibson. I’m probably in the middle of both of them with my build. He definitely said he could see me thriving in that offense. I feel pretty good (about USC). They are definitely somewhere up there on my list.”
One of the other recruiters battling Briles for Knowles is Illinois receivers coach Justin Stepp, the Pelion native and former USC assistant. Knowles made his official visit with the Illini a couple of weekends ago.
“It was good. They have great people up there,” Knowles said. “Me and Coach Stepp we have a great relationship too. He was my second-ever offer. Briles was my first ever offer, funny enough. Me and Stepp, we’ve been kicking it for a while. It was great spending some time up there with him and his family and my family.”
Knowles also has officials set with TCU May 29th, Arkansas June 5th, and Kentucky June 12th. He is taking an unofficial visit to Arkansas on Thursday. The five schools he is visiting constitute his final five, with a decision to come after the visits. He has an announcement date of June 20th.
