South Carolina receivers coach Mike Furrey made the trip down to Bluffton High on Tuesday to visit with WR Amare Patterson (6-2 197). Patterson estimated Furrey spent about three hours on the visit, as they had to work around his track practice.

“He was just letting me know that I was a priority, and we’re trying to get an OV scheduled,” Patterson said.  “I didn’t really get to spend that much time because I had track practice. He was just talking about how the program is looking and how everything is going. He was just saying I’m a ballplayer, and he wants to keep the best in the state. He felt like I should be there. I didn’t get to spend that much time with him, but I really appreciate him coming down to see me.”

Patterson said they are looking at the weekend of May 1st for his official visit, one of four he plans to take with the programs he’s most interested in at this point. He also has Georgia down for May 15th, LSU on May 29th, and Florida on June 12th. He has set June 20th for his commitment date.

Patterson said he is expecting a large number of coaches to come through Bluffton and his home in Ridgeland in the coming weeks. He’s expecting Florida to visit on Thursday.
