DE Peyton Bishop (6-4 230) of Dutch Fork was at Clemson on Wednesday for a visit with defensive ends coach Chris Rumph. Bishop has not been offered by Rumph, but that hasn’t dampened the interest from either party.
Bishop used this particular visit as a learning tool to make him an even better player for his first season with the Silver Foxes.
“Speaking with Coach Rumph, he showed me a lot through film, showed me how to really use my technique and add some more tools to my toolbox,” Bishop said. “They are very interested, and they are coming down this spring for me. Their process is different. A Clemson offer is rare. They have to really be committed.”
Bishop is looking forward to Rumph putting eyes on him in a spring practice. He believes what Rumph will see there is exactly what he’s seen of him on tape from his days at AC Flora.
“Same thing I showed him on film. Just me being me,” Bishop said. “Just show him me in person. That’s all he needs to see.”
And there’s no question that an offer from Clemson would turn Bishop’s recruiting on its head.
“It’s really my hometown school, outside of USC, of course,” Bishop said. “It’s the state of South Carolina, so it’s huge.”
Bishop, who visited USC in March, said he’s not heard much from the Gamecocks since then. He has also visited this spring at Georgia Tech, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee.
Bishop has official visits set with Virginia Tech on June 5th, followed by Georgia Tech and Mississippi State the next two weekends. He said an offer from Clemson would likely lead to an official visit being set with the Tigers as well.
His offers include Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and UConn.
Bishop was joined on the visit by his parents, his younger brother, and his Dutch Fork teammates, wide receivers Maleek Mille and 2929 receiver Corey Miller.
Last season, Bishop had 103 tackles with 16 sacks and 25 tackles for loss.
