USC 103-Vanderbilt 74 Game Summary

- Two big runs, at the start of the game and the start of the third quarter, put South Carolina in position to control the game. The Gamecocks built a 21-7 lead about six minutes into the game, forcing several Vanderbilt turnovers and converting them into easy buckets. The Gamecocks shot 72% in the quarter and forced eight turnovers, and led 33-16 after one.
- Vanderbilt had a spurt late in the second quarter, outscoring the Gamecocks 10-2 over the final three minutes, to pull to within 55-44 at halftime. The Commodores scored the first four points of the third quarter, and then the Gamecocks hit them with their second punch.
- With the score 55-48, Maddy McDaniel hit a three-pointer, and that sparked a 27-8 USC run to the end of the quarter. During a key point in the quarter, the Gamecocks connected on eight of ten shots, including a trio of threes, and they took an 82-56 lead into the fourth quarter.
- The Gamecocks did not let up in the fourth quarter, scoring the first six points, all on layups to go up by 32. This time, there was no response from the Commodores. as they would get no closer than 26 points the rest of the way.
- The Gamecocks finished with a 62% shooting day, including 10-17 on threes, and 13-14 at the line. They scored 32 points off of 20 turnovers, and they won the paint 56-24. the Gamecocks dished out 25 assists on their 40 baskets.
- Vandy did hit a dozen three-pointers, a high allowed by the Gamecocks this season.
- Four of the five starters scored in double figures, with Tan’Niya Latson leading the way with 21 points. Tessa Johnson added 20 points.
- USC has won 19 straight over Vanderbilt and 52 straight SEC home games. They are 20-2 overall and 6-1 in the SEC and will play at Auburn on Thursday night. This is the 15th straight season of at least 20 wins for the Gamecocks.
- Head coach Dawn Staley made a lineup change for the Vandy game. Agot Mageer was inserted into the lineup for Madina Okot. Mageer had eight points and two rebounds in 17 minutes, and Okot had 17 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes.
