South Carolina sees 12 game winning streak end at Oklahoma (Gamecock Athletics)

Oklahoma 94-USC 82 (OT) Game Summary

  • South Carolina led at halftime 43-36, but the Sooners won the third quarter 25-16 to take a two poking lead to the fourth. The Gamecocks shot 33% in the third quarter and had five turnovers, while rhe Sooners shot 50% in the quarter.
  • Oklahoma led by six with 3:54 to play, then the Gamecocks scored eight straight to take a 75-73 lead with :41 to play.
  • After a timeout, the Sooners missed a layup, but scored the tying bucket on a put back by Raegan Beers with :18 left.
  • After a timeout, the Gamecocks were not able to get a shot off as Joyce Edwards lost the ball in the final seconds.
  • Oklahoma outscored the Gamecocks 12-2 over the first three minutes of overtime for an 87-77 lead. Freshman guard Aaliyah Chavez, who had the Gamecocks as a finalist when she signed with the Sooners last April, scored seven points during that run that put the game away.
  • The Sooners went 8-8 from the floor in overtime, including four triples, while South Carolina was 3-for-10.
  • Tessa Johnson led the Gamecocks with 19 points, and Raven Johnson added 16. Chavez led all scorers with 26 points, and she had eight assists.
  • The loss snapped a 12 game winning streak by USC as well as a 10 game SEC winning streak. USC is now 19-2 overall and 5-1 in the SEC and will host Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon, weather permitting.
