STRecruiting: Getting back to the basics at Clemson has impressed 2028 RB Michael Martin of Christ Church

Michael Martin

It has been a busy spring for Christ Church Episcopal School running back Michael Martin. The 2028 prospect has already taken trips to USC, Duke, and North Carolina. However, Clemson has found a way to consistently make an impression. He’s been to multiple practices and attended the Tigers’ spring game in late March.

“It’s easy to come back to Clemson because I have built a strong relationship with Coach Spiller and the entire staff,” Martin relayed. “They always make me feel like a priority. They tell me I can come anytime, so I do. Also, it’s very, very close to home.”

Martin (5-9, 192) has recently experienced a surge in his recruitment, with Penn State, Tennessee, Stanford, and other schools expressing interest in the Upstate standout. What’s been crucial during his visits to Clemson is the opportunity to view Chad Morris’ offense up close and personal. Morris wants to run the football, a philosophy he showcased during the Orange and White game.

“I really love that Coach Morris wants to run the ball a lot,” Martin confessed. “I also like how he gets the RB’s in the passing game and uses them in different ways. It’s similar to how my team (Christ Church) uses me now, and I can see myself doing well in his offense.”

The fit on the field appears to be solid, and off the field, Martin believes that his relationship with Morris is progressing positively. That, paired with the love he feels he’s getting from the rest of Clemson’s staff, continues to forge a strong bond with the Tigers.

“My relationship with the staff has only gotten stronger,” he said. “I’ve met Coach Morris, and he likes me. He is very high-energy. The rest of the staff I’ve known for a while, and they just continue to show me a lot of love every time I’m on campus.”

Even with offers from places like Duke, Syracuse, Wake Forest, East Carolina, and Appalachian State, there remains something about the Tigers that has captivated Martin throughout his ongoing recruitment.
