STRecruiting: Clemson has moved into the final six with recently offered offensive lineman JJ Brown

OT Jason (JJ) Brown (6-6 305) of Lilburn, GA, Monday revealed his top six schools as Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Kentucky, Florida, and Florida State. Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke has made substantial progress with Brown since offering him in April. It was an offer Brown had been waiting for.

“Clemson was one of my favorite teams growing up,” Brown said Sunday night.  “When Trevor Lawrence was at Clemson was probably one of my favorite times, especially back when they were winning championships.  Clemson first hit me up in January of this year.  I had sent my film and told them I was very interested.  Coach Luke hit me up in February.  We have just built a relationship from there.  At the end of April, I got a chance to take an unofficial visit.  We went into the film room, and he just talked about a lot of development, and the first rounder they just had go in the draft.  That’s when he was like, I want you to be the next one here, and that’s when he offered me a scholarship.”

Brown has not yet visited Clemson as a recruit, but he and Luke have been in contact.

“Coach Luke didn’t talk too much about my skills, except that I’m very athletic,” Brown said.  “Clemson says that they like more about character and not just skill.  He said I have a great personality.  I put a smile on people’s faces, and I’m just a good kid overall, in his opinion.  The athletic standpoint, he said I’m very athletic.  I have great arm length, and I use my advantages.”

Brown will take his official visit with the Tigers on May 29th, so the Tigers will get the chance to make the first big impression before he makes his other visits.

“They are definitely one of my favorites so far,” he said.  “I don’t have to go too far from home, and they have the same logo as my high school.  It definitely feels like a second home to me; if that were to happen, especially that I was growing up as a Clemson fan.  It just felt right that I got the offer.”

After the Clemson official, Brown is scheduled to see Georgia, Auburn, and Kentucky. He plans to make his commitment in late July or early August.
