Clemson 4 — #12-Florida State 3 (Game Summary)

  • Clemson honored eleven players prior to today’s “Senior Day” matchup with Florida State. The group included junior pitchers Aidan Knaak and Drew Titsworth. However, it was a junior (Jarren Purify) and a freshman (Danny Nelson) that led the Tigers to victory
  • Florida State immediately attacked the Tigers’ starter, Michael Sharman. On the fifth pitch of the game, Brayden Dowd gave the Seminoles a 1-0 lead with his 9th HR of the season. Following a double by Brody DeLamielleure, Hunter Carns drove in the second run of the game with a base hit to center
  • In the 3rd, FSU added to the lead as DeLamielleure scorched his second extra-base hit of the game, this time over the wall in left-center field, to make it 3-0 ‘Noles
  • Purify got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the fourth, launching a 2-run HR (his 4th of the season) down the left field line to get Clemson within 3-2 heading to the fifth
  • In the sixth, the Clemson second baseman knotted the game with his third RBI of the evening. Purify’s base hit to left brought in Luke Gaffney to level the contest at 3-3
  • With Purify taking care of the offense, freshman reliever Danny Nelson handled the pitching. The right-hander was dominant in middle relief. He retired twelve straight batters from the 5th through the 8th to earn his second win of the season. Nelson threw just thirty-nine pitches (29 strikes) to keep the ‘Noles scoreless over four innings of work
  • In the bottom of the 8th with two outs and the bases loaded in a tie game, Florida State blinked. Cade O’Leary, FSU’s fourth pitcher of the day, bounced a pitch to the backstop, allowing Tyler Lichtenberger to trot home with the eventual game-winning run
  • The three-game series wraps up on Sunday with a “Mother’s Day” matinee beginning at 3pm
