STRecruiting Notebook 1-6: Free agent visits continue for USC and Clemson with new names popping up; two former Gamecocks find new homes

Kentucky CB Quay’sheed Scott of Marion is transferring. The former Shrine Bowler was heavily recruited by South Carolina out of high school, and he made an official visit even though he was committed to the Wildcats. It’s expected USC will be involved again. Scott spent two seasons with the Wildcats and totaled 45 tackles and an interception. (Matt Zenitz)

Arkansas State transfer DE Drew Collins (6-4 238) was offered by South Carolina Monday night. He was a redshirt freshman this season who had six tackles and three sacks in 12 games.

Purdue WR Nitro Tuggle (6-1 195) will visit South Carolina on Tuesday. He is scheduled to visit Vanderbilt on Wednesday. This season Tuggle had 34 catches for 500 yards and four touchdowns. (JGPCFB)

Also scheduled to visit the Gamecocks on Tuesday are Louisiana OT Bryant Williams and Florida State TE Randy Pittman. Williams has visited Florida State and the Seminoles made a strong impression. Pittman has visited Purdue and is also scheduled to visit Oklahoma State and SMU.

Auburn CB Donovan Starr (5-11 182) will visit Clemson on Tuesday. He played in nine games for the Tigers on special teams and at corner. Vanderbilt is also a strong factor with Starr. (Rivals)

Old Dominion CB Jerome Carter arrived at Clemson Monday night and will be on a visit Tuesday and Wednesday. Louisville, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State are the other schools involved.

Clemson also has on campus three transfers who arrived on Monday….OT Johnnie Brown of Georgia Southern, LB Matai Togoa’i of Southern Cal, and DT Kourtney Kelly of West Georgia

Clemson is one of the contenders for Auburn free agent defensive tackle Malik Blockton (6-3 290) along with LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Alabama. He had 33 tackles and two sacks with the Tigers. (JGPCFB).

Clemson OL Rowan Byrne is transferring. As a freshman this season, he played in one game. He’s the 10th Clemson scholarship player to text the free agent market this month. (Pete Nakos)

Former Coastal Carolina OL Nick Del Grande is transferring to Duke. (On3)

Clemson target OT Carter Jones had an in-home visit with Clemson OL coach Matt Luke on Monday night.
