STRecruiting: A second visit to Clemson further enhanced the Tigers’ chances with 2027 WR DJ Huggins

2027 WR DJ Huggins (5-11 165) has become a favorite of Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and receivers coach Tyler Grisham when it comes to receivers in the 2027 class. They had him in camp last summer. He has also visited for two games this season.

One of the visits was in September. The other was last weekend for the Florida State game. In between those visits, Swinney and Grisham decided to make Huggins an offer.

“I definitely was surprised,” Huggins said.  “I had been in contact heavy.  It was maybe 8:30, and I got a text saying I’m about to get a FaceTime.  I was shocked and grateful.  It’s also grateful that people have seen that I’ve been working hard.  Very appreciative.”

Huggins knows that Grisham has studied him closely in camp and through this season, so he’s obviously seen a lot of things that he likes about him.

“I know they really like how I run routes and my hand,” Huggins said. “They definitely see a lot of good things about my upside.  They said I remind them of Antonio Williams.  Right now, with my offense at Harrison, they see the similarities of moving around.  I move around a lot.  I’m sometimes in the backfield and in motion.  They said I kind of look like him a little bit.”

That’s a pretty heady comparison considering that Williams is having an All-ACC type of season. The idea of one day being at Clemson and being used like Williams has been is intriguing to Huggins.

“They are definitely up there, for sure,” Huggins said.  “I’m definitely not in a rush at all.  I’ve still got a whole nother year when you look at it.  They are definitely up there.  They’ve been nothing but real with me.  The relationship definitely will keep building and building.  I definitely like Coach Swinney and Coach Grisham.  They’ve been nothing but real, so definitely appreciate them.”

Huggins has also been to games this season at Georgia Tech and Tennessee. He will visit Alabama this Saturday.

Through ten games this season, Huggins has 58 catches for 1007 yards and 12 touchdowns.
