South Carolina set a school record with 43 three-point attempts Sunday night in the win over Southern Mississippi. The Gamecocks made 16, so they’ve hit on 30 shots from downtown in their first two games.
In today’s basketball world, that’s what young players want to see. And watching the Gamecocks fire away Sunday night was 2027 prospect 6-7 RJ Moore of Charlotte, who came down for the game with his father.
“It was a good game. It came down to the wire,” Moore said. “I liked it at South Carolina. South Carolina has a good fanbase, and I liked the campus.”
South Carolina has not yet offered Moore, but it’s probably just a matter of time before that happens. Assistant coaches Eddie Shannon and Will Bailey have been setting the table for that.
“Coach Shannon has been in contact with me, and Coach Bailey,” Moore said. “I talked to the head coach, and he said he’s going to come out and watch me play. Coach Shannon came out to one of my practices last month, and we’re pretty close in contact. I think we have a great relationship. I’m just ready for them to come watch me play so they can really see me. I think it will be good starting a relationship.”
Moore played the last two seasons at Corvian Prep in Charlotte, where he averaged over 19 points and six rebounds per game for the two seasons. Last season, he averaged over 23 points and seven rebounds per game. Coaches do like his ability to put the ball in the basket.
“I think my size and scoring ability is a big factor in them liking how I’m able to score the ball,” said Moore, who shot 59% overall from the floor last season, and 37% from three.
Moore is at Ambassador Christian School in Huntersville, NC this season. He scored 16 points in his season opener.
Moore has visited Tennessee, and he plans to visit Virginia this Saturday for his final visit until the spring. His offers include Wake Forest, Rutgers, Utah, Mississippi State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Appalachian State, Florida State, North Carolina A&T and High Point.
