STRecruiting Notebook 4-21: USC and Clemson made the short lists with top targets; USC hosting hoops free agent Tuesday

CB Joshua Dobson named a final five of South Carolina, LSU, Michigan, Auburn and Texas A&M. He has his USC official visit on June 19th.

WR Iveon Lewis of Richmond named his final five as South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Kentucky and Virginia Tech. He will announce on July 1st. He has his USC official set for May 1st.

Clemson is in the final six with WR Lawrence Britt of Memphis. The others are Ole Miss, Arkansas, Missouri, Florida and Texas Tech. He has a Clemson official visit set for May 29th

South Carolina commitment SAF Jernard Albright is moving from Springfield, GA to Baltimore to attend St. Frances Academy..

South Carolina offered 2028 WR X’Zavier Cannon (5-10 165) of Warner Robins, GA. Last season he had 65 catches for over 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns.

2028 ATH Jakye Beard of Paris, TN was offered by South Carolina.

Basketball News:

John Whittle of TheBigSpur reported Tuesday morning that 6-10 Jakub Necas of Duquesne is visiting South Carolina today. He’s a native of Czechia. The lefthander played in 95 games at Duquesne and averaged five points and four rebounds per game. This season, he averaged seven points and five rebounds per game. He started in all 32 games and averaged 24 minutes per game. He shot 50% from the floor, 36% from three, and 70%% from the line.

College of Charleston head men’s basketball coach John Groce has announced the signing of Eli Ellis to the 2026-27 Cougars’ roster. Ellis spent the 2025-26 season at the University of South Carolina. The Hickory, N.C. native saw action in 28 games for the Gamecocks during his freshman campaign, averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.8 steals per game. He comes to Charleston with three years of eligibility remaining.

Groce also announced the signing of JaShawn Ladd to the 2026-27 Cougars’ roster. A 6’4″ true freshman guard out of Indianapolis, Ladd averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game during his senior season at Ben Davis High School. He was recently named an Indiana All-Star, recognizing the top 12 high school players in the state of Indiana.

Maryland guard Myles Rice, who was born in Columbia before moving to Tyone, GA as a toddler, is on the market. He overcame Hodgkins Lymphoma while at Washington State, then played a year at Indiana before joining Maryland for this past season.
