Erling Haaland – 48 games
No player in the history of the Premier League has come close to matching the rate at which Erling Haaland reached 50 goals. The Manchester City striker got there in just 48 appearances, breaking a record that had stood for nearly 30 years. He scored twice on his debut at West Ham in August 2022 and barely slowed from that point.
Haaland also holds the records for fewest appearances to reach 10, 20, 30 and 40 Premier League goals. His 36-goal haul in his debut 2022-23 campaign broke the record for the most goals in a single Premier League season, previously held by Mohamed Salah. In terms of sheer goalscoring volume across a short period, nobody in the competition’s history compares.
Andrew Cole – 65 games
Andy Cole held the record for fastest to 50 Premier League goals for almost 30 years, reaching the landmark in 65 appearances. He got there in spectacular circumstances, scoring five goals in Manchester United’s 9-0 demolition of Ipswich Town in March 1995, the first time any player had scored five in a Premier League match.
Cole had already scored 43 Premier League goals in 58 games for Newcastle United before his move to Old Trafford, which underlines how consistent his form was across different environments. He finished his Premier League career with 187 goals, a total that places him among the division’s all-time greats.
Alan Shearer – 66 games
Alan Shearer was the first player ever to reach 50 Premier League goals, doing so in September 1994 against Everton while at Blackburn Rovers. Cole eclipsed his record of 66 appearances just six months later, but Shearer would go on to finish his career with 260 Premier League goals, a record that has stood since his retirement in 2006.
Shearer was also the fastest player to 100 Premier League goals, reaching the century in 124 appearances, 17 quicker than any other player. His consistency over more than a decade at the top level sets him apart from almost everyone else on this list.
Ruud van Nistelrooy – 68 games
Ruud van Nistelrooy reached 50 Premier League goals in 68 appearances for Manchester United, scoring his half-century against Newcastle in August 2003. He left the Premier League with 95 goals in 150 appearances, never reaching the century mark due to his departure for Real Madrid in 2006.
Van Nistelrooy was one of the most reliable finishers the division has seen, and he holds the record for the longest consecutive scoring run in Premier League history at the time, netting in 10 successive appearances. That run was eventually broken by Jamie Vardy in 2015.
Fernando Torres and Mohamed Salah – 72 games
Fernando Torres and Mohamed Salah share fifth place, both reaching 50 Premier League goals in 72 appearances. Torres got there in December 2009 during his time at Liverpool, scoring 65 goals in 102 league games for the club before his form fell away sharply after his move to Chelsea.
Salah matched Torres in January 2019, also in a Liverpool shirt. Before Haaland arrived, Salah held the record for the fewest minutes taken to score 50 Premier League goals, reaching the mark in just 5,374 minutes of football. Haaland lowered that to 3,827 minutes, though Salah’s overall contribution to the Premier League record books remains considerable.
Alexander Isak – 76 games
Alexander Isak became the seventh-fastest player to 50 Premier League goals with a brace against Nottingham Forest in February 2025, reaching the landmark in his 76th appearance for Newcastle United. The Sweden international has been one of the division’s most consistent finishers since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022, hitting double figures for league goals in each of his three seasons at St James’ Park. His 50th goal also made him the highest-scoring Swedish player in Premier League history, surpassing Freddie Ljungberg’s tally of 48. At 26 years old when he reached the milestone, Isak is well placed to continue climbing the all-time charts.
