Clemson’s efforts for one prospect might pay off before the real recruitment gets started. Despite offers not coming out for the 2028 class until this month, that doesn’t stop the courting of these targets beforehand.
Enter Prince Che.
The defensive lineman from Thomas County Central (GA) announced an offer from the Tigers over the weekend, but his relationship with Clemson has more history to it than just an introductory offer.
At the time, Che (6-3, 305) was just a rising recruit that visited campus twice for two games. His first trip was for a fall afternoon to catch the action against SMU. The second was a primetime victory over Florida State.
Following the second visit with the Tigers, Che began to understand what made Clemson special, noting the program’s authentic nature, especially in his dealings with Nick Eason.
“My relationship with Coach Eason has grown a lot since the last time I was there,” Che said. “What really stands out is how genuine he is — he keeps it real with me, and I can tell he really cares about developing his players on and off the field.”
Months later, the traits that made Clemson stand out when his recruitment was taking off are now making a difference as the race has intensified. Indiana, Oregon, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Texas are just a few of the big names that have entered the Che sweepstakes.
Clemson eventually threw its hat into the ring, but behind the scenes, a relationship that’s been cultivated for months is beginning to pay off. That bond between player and program added to Che’s excitement when the offer was eventually extended.
“The relationship has grown stronger through consistent communication and comfort with the program,” he explained. “Receiving the offer was exciting and rewarding because Clemson is a respected program.”
After a sophomore campaign in which he recorded 48 tackles (14.5 for loss), 11 quarterback pressures, and four sacks, his national stock will only continue to grow.
The Tigers are in the thick of what figures to be an intense recruiting battle. At least for now, the early efforts aren’t being forgotten.
“Clemson is a top contender, though the recruitment remains open,” Che said. “A return visit is likely this fall, with a decision expected after more visits and towards the start of my senior season.”
