STRecruiting: Will it be Clemson or Georgia for SAF Seth Williams? We’ll find out in early July

Clemson and Georgia are locked up in an old-fashioned I-85 recruiting battle for a top prospect in the Peach State. SAF Seth Williams (6-3 190) of Atlanta, who was once committed to Clemson, plans to announce a final verdict on July 3rd on the 247Sports YouTube channel. The time will be either 4:00 or 5:00 PM.

Williams took official visits to both programs, then canceled visits to Florida and Ohio State after determining it was going to be either the Tigers or the Bulldogs. He’s now weighing the pros and cons of each in his mind.

“Just the basic things, you know, on a deeper level,” Williams said. “I already did my research. So now it’s just where do I want to be? Do I want to be in Georgia or do I want to be in Clemson? It’s two great feelings, but they’re in two different forms. Clemson has their good in their own ways. Georgia has their good in their own ways. It’s who do I see myself fitting in more with? What culture?”

One aspect of each Williams has taken a close look at is the depth chart, and where he would have the best opportunity for early playing time.

“Georgia has some kids going to the league next year. Clemson has some guys who are leaving,” Williams said. “I feel like it’s an equal opportunity at both schools. So now it’s just time to really break down a depth chart and see where I would be at the safety position and how many safeties are on both sides of the depth chart at both schools.”

And having his decision down to Clemson and Georgia, Williams finds himself in the middle of a tug-of-war between Dabo Swinney and Kirby Smart.

“It’s kind of wild, man,” he said. “Two of the most prestigious coaches in college football. It’s one of those situations about which coach I want to play for and which coach I feel would better my potential in going to the place that all college football players want to go. Both of them are active in my recruitment. They’re both giving me calls every day. They’re both letting me know what’s going on and giving me a real hard decision to make when it comes to this.”

When it is a tight fight for a big-time prospect, the fans like to believe the NIL package will make a big difference. However, Williams said that’s not how he sees things here.

“I feel like it really doesn’t matter because at the end of the day, I’m a football player and if I’m going to do what I’m going to do, then I should I’m going to get paid regardless in the long run,” Williams said. “So now I’m just taking it in and really trying to see where my development is going to be the most, if I’m being quite frankly honest.”

With that being said, how will Williams know which program is the right one?

“I’ve been praying really hard. Like I’ve been praying a lot, just talking to God and asking him what’s going on and really having those conversations that you’re supposed to have with him,” Williams said. “So I feel like I trust God with my future a lot. And he’ll never get me wrong, regardless of how I feel in the moment. So, I feel like whichever way God leads me, that’s the school I’m going to go to.”
