STRecruiting: Byrnes CB Aidyn Wiggins made two visits to South Carolina this week, so what does that mean?

Aidyn Wiggins

Clemson and South Carolina had a chance to make an early move for Byrnes CB Aidyn Wiggins (6-2 182), but neither did, and now he’s committed to Auburn. Clemson did finally offer on May 12th, three days after Auburn did, but he chose to go to Auburn instead of Clemson for the major recruiting weekend at the first of the month. Wiggins then committed to Auburn a few days later.

South Carolina didn’t offer Wiggins until this past Monday, and this week, the Gamecocks have tried to play some catch-up. Wiggins visited early in the week for a camp, and he was back on Thursday for a 7X7 event. He’s certainly gotten the attention of Gamecock Head Coach Shane Beamer and Secondary Coach Torrian Gray this week.

“They were telling me how good a ball player I am, and they can see that I’m a big physical guy,” Wiggins said. “They were telling me how much they love me, and they’d love to get me to flip and play for them. Coach Gray, Coach Beamer, Coach (Clayton) White, Coach (Jaylan) Foster. I mean, it was primarily Coach Gray and Coach Foster, especially with Coach Foster since he’s a Byrnes guy. That’s really who I’ve been talking to a lot.”

Wiggins appreciated the attention he was getting from the Gamecocks, but he admitted that he couldn’t help but wonder the obvious to himself.

” I was thinking about like what took so long (for an offer), but I know it’s part of the process that goes through their recruiting place,” Wiggins said. “I know it takes time. At the end of the day, I’m appreciative of it, and they’re pushing hard.”

Wiggins said the Gamecock coaches did not broach the idea of an official visit for this weekend. Even if they had, Wiggins said he would probably have turned it down right now.

“It would be hard to say because Auburn asked me not to take any more OVs,’ Wiggins said. I’d have to talk to them about it and see what they think, but I probably wouldn’t.”

Wiggins, in fact, had scheduled an official visit with LSU for this weekend, but after a conversation with the coaches at Auburn, he canceled that.

“I’m locked in with Auburn all the way,” Wiggins said. “I love everybody, all those guys. But like I said, anything can change. And school can hop in, but it’s going to take a lot for them to flip me. A lot of teams, even though I’ve committed, they’ve been reaching out, and I haven’t backed down and not talked. So I’m still communicating. Like I said, anything can change, so I’ve been communicating with all the coaches.”

Besides his official visit to Auburn, Wiggins had also scheduled officials to Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
