It came as no surprise that the first question for Shane Beamer on Tuesday was about South Carolina’s run game. The Gamecocks are 2-0 with a pair of double-digit wins, but Beamer admitted the ground attack has to be better going into the SEC opener against Vanderbilt.
“It’s not one glaring issue but a host of things,” Beamer said. “We’ve been close, but haven’t been consistent enough.”
Health is another storyline, especially in the defensive backfield. Beamer said he’ll have more details later this week with the SEC injury report, only offering that USC is “trending in the right direction” for now.
Key comments from Beamer
- Called Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia “a stud” who loves the moment and loves to compete. Said they met briefly at SEC Media Days.
- Noted the Gamecocks will be in louder, tougher environments this season, and that communication starts with LaNorris Sellers and Boaz Stanley raising their voices to keep the offense moving.
- Shared that DL coach Travian Robertson has been able to Zoom into meetings since leaving the hospital. Beamer said he’s eager to be back.
- Said this is the best Vanderbilt team he’s faced in his time at South Carolina, with Pavia at the center of it.
