FOUNDERS PARK, Columbia, SC
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head baseball coach Paul Mainieri met with the media Tuesday at Founders Park, offering updates on the Gamecocks’ roster, recruiting, and early plans for the 2026 season.
Mainieri said the 2026 roster is close to being finalized, with commitments from freshmen Noah Franklin and Luke Roupe. One spot remains to be filled on the pitching staff. He noted improvement in that area is a priority, citing a more structured approach and increased use of technology in player development.
The Gamecocks have added several players from the transfer portal, including JUCO transfers Aaron Jamison and Caleb Hoover, along with Tyler Bak (Wofford), Ethan Lizama (Western Kentucky), and Luke Yuhasz (Louisiana-Lafayette). Freshman Brandon Cromer Jr. will miss the season and take a medical redshirt following Tommy John surgery.
Mainieri said sophomore KJ Scobey has made a strong case at shortstop following a productive summer with the Lexington County Blowfish. He also noted that early recruiting efforts for the class of 2026 are progressing well.
Opening Day is set for February 13, 2026. While South Carolina has been in discussions with Northern Kentucky about the opening series, no official details have been released.
Mainieri concluded by mentioning his plans to attend the Coaches for Charity event Tuesday night in Greenville, where Jake McCoy is being honored.
