Clemson football rang the bell on the twenty-one-day mark to the start of the season on Saturday with a scrimmage inside of Memorial Stadium. It’s the first of two team scrimmages for the Tigers prior to their matchup with Georgia on August 31st. The players will battle against one another again on Thursday, August 15th.
Following the scrimmage, head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media to recap the practice and update the progress of his team.
Key Notes from Swinney
- — This is a tough little stretch for the team to try and build the mental toughness he wants from his squad.
- — A lot of good work, pretty much all good on good all day. Mixed in a lot of special teams work as well.
- — There was some good and some bad like there always is. A lot of things to be encouraged by.
- — Bunch of guys on both sides “flashed.”
- — Defense made some mistakes they shouldn’t make. Had some busts.
- — Overall felt the defense was too undisciplined.
- — Defense did have a couple of takeaways.
- — Offensively, thought the OL ‘won the day’. Swinney says he’s really pleased with the way they’ve performed to this point.
- — Thought Klubnik had an outstanding day, and he’s had a really good camp.
- — Thought all of the running backs ran well.
