STRecruiting: One Clemson running back target sets commitment date, and another one is ready for his official visits

Gary Walker

RB Andrew Beard (5-9 197) of Bogart, GA announced on Friday that he will make his commitment announcement in one week. Beard has been down to a final four of Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida, and has official visits set with each.

The Clemson visit is for May 29th, and if he commits to the Tigers next week, he will have to cancel the other visits per the rules of Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.

Another Clemson running back target, Gary Walker (6-1 200) of Fairburn, GA is also scheduled for an official visit to Clemson on May 29th. He has Stanford the week prior, and the weeks following he is scheduled for Virginia Tech, Penn State and Florida State.

Walker last visited Clemson in early March, and since then, he has continued to grow the relationship with running backs coach CJ Spiller and offensive coordinator Chad Morris. That’s a big factor in why Clemson is in the hunt.

“The great relationship I have with coach Morris and coach Spiller and the entire staff, while they’ve only offered two other running backs,” Walker said. “I feel they have a great plan for me. They’ve said to go through the recruiting process and break down everything before you make a decision, so no matter where you go, you have no regrets.”

Walker had a big junior season with over 1600 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. Some might say he’s reminiscent of another running back with the last name of Walker who came out of Georgia a few decades ago.

“Explosive, strong, downhill running back,” Walker said of is running style. “Break tackles, don’t get tackled one-on-one, don’t have too many negative plays, and home run ability.”
