STRecruiting: WR DJ Huggins of Georgia commits to South Carolina

DJ Huggins

South Carolina gained its second football verbal commitment in as many days Thursday night when WR DJ Huggins announced his commitment to the Gamecocks via Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. Huggins chose the Gamecocks over Georgia, Alabama , and Kansas. He has an official visit scheduled with the Gamecocks for June 19th.

Huggins made two spring visits with the Gamecocks, and he plans to attend the junior day on May 17th.

USC picked up a lot of ground with Huggins during those spring visits and eventually moved to the front of the list as receivers coach Mike Furrey and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles outlined for him how he could shine in their offense.

“They like getting the ball in playmakers’ hands, which is something that definitely attracts me,” Huggins said this spring. “Coach Furrey was preaching how they are going to spread the ball around and get it in their playmakers’ hands.  I definitely liked hearing that.”

Clemson also had some early involvement with Clemson and Tennessee. He also had offers from Georgia Tech, Memphis, Boise State and others.

Last season, Huggins had 67 catches for 1127 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Huggins is the fifth commitment for the Gamecocks 2027 class, and the third for the offense.
