Clemson 14 – Boston College 4 Game Summary
- Clemson unleashed a furious barrage of aggressive batting and base running to score eleven runs in the first inning en route to a 14-4 victory (7 innings) over Boston College at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Saturday.
- A day after being held largely in check by BC pitching, the Tigers ambushed starter Brady Miller (L, 2-1) for nine runs before the Eagles righthander could register two outs.
- Nate Savoie (2-4, HR, 3 RBI) opened the game with a double to left, reaching third after Luke Gaffney walked and Jacob Jarrell was hit by a pitch. Tryston McCladdie walked on five pitches to bring home Savoie with the first of eleven first-inning runs. Jarren Purify drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly. Clemson then fed Boston College some of its own medicine, scoring twice on safety squeeze bunts from Tyler Lichtenberger and Bryce Clavon (2-3, 2 RBI). In his second at-bat of the frame, Savoie jacked a three-run homer over the center field fence to give Clemson a 9-0 lead and chase Miller.
- BC’s John D. Mitchell relieved Miller but didn’t fare much better. Luke Gaffney greeted the southpaw with a solo homer and Jarrell laced the next pitch down the left field line for a double. Four batters later, Lichtenberger (2-4, 2 RBI) drove in run no. 11 with a single to right center.
- Clemson’s Michael Sharman (6-1) breezed through six innings, surrendering just two runs on six hits, lowering his ERA to 3.04.
- The eleven runs is most scored by the Tigers in an inning in seven years (The Citadel) and the most in an ACC game since 2005 (Miami, FL).
- Clemson (27-20, 7-16) can take the series from no. 20 Boston College when the two teams square off at noon, Sunday.
