One of the state’s most prized recruits for 2027, DT Seth Tillman (6-3 256) of South Pointe made his official visit to South Carolina over the weekend. He was joined by his mom, and he spent quality time with head coach Shane Beamer and defensive line coach Travian Robertson.
That was the football side of things. He also got a taste of the academic side, and that was important to him as well.
“What stood out the most was I got to see the actual educational piece to South Carolina,” Tillman said. “I wanted to see if they have my major. And another thing was hanging around the coaches and the players. Hanging around with Aiden (Harris) was incredible, getting to see what they do on a day to day basis when they are not on the field. Also the facilities, everything is just great at South Carolina.”
Harris and Tillman have been friends for years since they both lived in Rock Hill as kids. Harris was an extremely important signing for the Gamecocks’ 2026 class, and it’s possible Tillman might one day line up beside his old pal.
“Basically, they really want me at D-tackle,” Tillman said. “They really laid the red carpet and showed me how much they really wanted me and how much I mean to their program, showing me exactly where I fit. That’s really what I needed to see at South Carolina.”
The Gamecocks, of course, have always done well recruiting in Rock Hill, especially in recent years at South Pointe. They have been prominent in Tillmans’ recruiting for an extended time, and remain so after this visit as Tillman has narrowed his focus to four.
“They are most definitely up there in my recruiting now,” Tillman said. “They are in a group with Michigan, Clemson and Georgia.”
Tillman has official visits coming up to Georgia on May 29th, Michigan on June 5th and Clemson on June 12th. He has set July 11th for his commitment date.
Tillman said Georgia is planning to visit him on Tuesday and Michigan on Wednesday. He’s also expecting Clemson this week, and he said Robertson might be in this week or next week. USC defensive coordinator Clayton White and Michigan defensive line coach Larry Black have already been in to see Tillman.
