Boston College 8 – Clemson 4 Game Summary
- No. 20 Boston College scored in each of the first three innings and held Clemson scoreless over the final four for an 8-4 win at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Friday.
- The Eagles opened the scoring on Nick Wang’s solo homer in the top of the first. BC doubled three times in the second, leading to three more runs and an early exit for Tigers starter Dane Moehler (L, 0-1). Trailing 4-0, Clemson chopped the lead in half by plating a pair of unearned runs in the home half of the second before BC tightened its grip thanks to a two-run homer from Kyle Wolff in the third.
- Clemson showed some life in the fifth, trimming the deficit to 6-4 on Jacob Jarrell’s two-run home run. The Tigers’ lineup faded from there, however, reaching base just twice more the rest of the way.
- Boston College reliever Cesar Gonzalez (S, 3) nailed it down for starter AJ Colarusso (W, 5-2), starving the Tigers over the final three innings.
- The Tigers managed just six hits, none of which came after the fifth inning. Jarrell’s homer, his 17th, was Clemson’s only extra-base hit of the game.
- Head coach Erik Bakich called on five relievers, but only Justin LeGuernic (5.1 IP, 3 ER) went more than an inning, which should leave the bullpen well rested for the remainder of the series.
- Clemson (26-20, 6-16) will need to win the next two against the Eagles to avoid dropping its fourth straight ACC series. Game 2 from Doug Kingsmore Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday.
