Beamer reflects on first #Gamecocks scrimmage (AUDIO)

Shane Beamer has been impressed with the progress of quarterback LaNorris Sellers

Head coach Shane Beamer addressed the media following the Gamecocks’ scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium Saturday. Beamer expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance, noting how the players are starting to come together and work more effectively on the field. Beamer emphasized that the team is finding their rhythm, which he sees as a positive sign as they prepare for the upcoming season. He also praised the offensive line, saying, “I feel pretty good; they’ve battled, stayed healthy. They’ve been working great, giving us the opportunity to both run and throw the ball.”

Beamer mentioned that they’ve introduced some new technology this season, such as using tablets during games to review plays quickly and Coach-QB Radio units to improve communication with the quarterbacks. He thinks these tools are helping the team react faster and make better decisions during games. He pointed out that the kicking situation remains inconsistent, however, and they’re “nowhere close to picking a starter.”

When asked about quarterback LaNorris Sellers, Beamer didn’t hold back his praise.

“He’s having fun, and he has his teammates’ respect… He respects his teammates. The dynamic they have has been pretty cool to see.”

Beamer’s confidence in Sellers shows that he sees the young QB as a key player for the Gamecocks this season.

He also highlighted the team’s preparation, saying, “I’m impressed with the way they’ve conditioned their bodies; they showed up very prepared and ready to go.”

Beamer noted that several players, including Rocket Sanders and Juju McDowell, didn’t participate in today’s scrimmage but have been practicing and are expected to be back at practice tomorrow.
