South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris found himself in need of a new point guard after Meechie Johnson decided to transfer back to Ohio State following two seasons in Columbia. To fill that void, Paris went shopping in the NCAA Transfer Portal and landed 6-0 Jamarii Thomas, last season’s MEAC Player of the Year at Norfolk State.
Last season Thomas averaged 17 points, four rebounds and four assists per game. He’s also a demon on defense, and that’s one of the reasons Paris was sold on him.
Thomas began his career at UNC-Wilmington before transferring to Norfolk State. He had committed to VCU a week before visiting USC, and that visit changed his plans.
Last week, Thomas joined us on SportsTalk to discuss his journey to Columbia and what he can bring to the Gamecocks.
