James Reese V banked in a half-court heave in the final two-seconds of overtime to deliver USC a dramatic 77-74 win at Ole Miss Tuesday night. It’s the second straight road win for the Gamecocks and only their third victory in 18 trips to Oxford. The Gamecocks also broke a three-game losing streak to the Rebels.

The Gamecocks had to fight back in the last 4:24 of regulation to force overtime. They trailed 63-57 then scored the next five points. A pair of free throws put Ole Miss up by three with 2:00 to play. Devin Carter missed a jumper but Ole Miss was whistled for a ten-second violation.

Erik Stevenson made the Rebels pay hitting a three to tie the game with 1:24 left in regulation. Ole Miss retook the lead with a free throw with :51 to play, but Stevenson knocked down another deep three for a 68-66 lead with :25 left.

The Rebels then put the game into the hands of outstanding guard Jarkel Joiner, and he did not disappoint the home crowd. He drove to the basket and got free for a layup with a second left to send the game to overtime.

The extra session was tight throughout with two points the largest lead either way. The game was tied at 74 after a pair of Ole Miss foul shots with 1:04 left. From there, both teams missed three pointers, and the Gamecocks got the final rebound and called timeout with two-seconds left.

Frank Martin designed a play for Devin Carter running deep to the basket, but he cut his route short, and eventually Jermaine Couisnard fired a pass from the baseline to Reese at mid-court. Reese caught the ball in stride as he stepped over the half-court line and heaved the ball to the basket. It hit off the square and went through the hoop as time expired.

Stevenson led three Gamecocks in double figures with 17 points. Carter and Keyshawn Bryant added 16 each. Carter also led the Gamecocks with 11 rebounds and he dished out 4 assists.

The Gamecocks are now 15-10 overall and 6-7 in the SEC. They return home for a pair of games with LSU in on Saturday and Mississippi State visiting on Wednesday.
