#STRecruiting Notebook 8-22 (UPDATED Sunday night)

USC and Clemson target TE Oscar Delp of Cumming, GA said Sunday night he has pinned down the date for a game visit for USC and is still working on dates to see games at his three other finalists, Clemson, Georgia and Michigan.

Delp said for his USC visit he plans to be in for the Kentucky game on September 25th. As things stand now, that means the Gamecocks would get the last visit as Delp is looking at September 30th for his commitment announcement. Delp does have plans to be in Charlotte September 4th for the Clemson-Georgia game. That means he will see Clemson and Georgia play at least twice in September before making his decision. Delp said he has been talking to the head coaches and the tight end coaches from each of his four finalists.

LB Deuce Spurlock (6-2 200) of Madison, AL said Sunday night he’s planning to take an unofficial visit to USC September 4th for the season opening game against Eastern Illinois. It will be his first visit to the campus. Spurlock said he has been in regular contact with Gamecock defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clayton White. He said Michigan and Pitt are two others working him pretty hard at this point, and Mississippi State and Syracuse also remain in touch with him. He’d also like to get to games at those four schools before making his decision. Spurlock thought he was ready to make a decision earlier this month, but he cancelled his announcement the day before he was scheduled to make it. He has not decided on another commitment date at this point.

Clemson’s primary defensive tackle target for the 2022 class, Travis Shaw (6-5 310) of Greensboro, NC Saturday night announced a commitment to North Carolina.  He also had Georgia and North Carolina A&T on his final list.  Shaw’s decision gave Mack Brown a rare victory over Dabo Swinney in recent head-to-head recruiting battles.  Swinney claimed cornerbacks Daylen Everette and Jeadyn Lukas over the Tar Heels last month.  Last year he won out for linebacker Trenton Simpson. The Tigers do not have a defensive tackle among their 12 commitments. They have two other highly rated defensive tackle prospect on their board in Caden Curry of Greenwood, IN and Hero Kanu of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.

WR Brenen Thompson of Spearman, TX named a final three of Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas. He had Clemson on his previous short list.

2023 five-star WR Brandon Innis of Miami Gardens, who had USC and Clemson among his offers, committed to Oklahoma. He’s ranked the #1 WR in his class nationally.

USC offered 6-11 Christ Wilson Essandoko of France and Winston-Salem Christian.  He was in for the Gamecocks’ Elite Camp Saturday along with teammate 2023 6-10 Brandon White.  Essandoko also has offers from DePaul, Texas A&M, Maryland, Providence, NC State, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Ohio State, Illinois and Pitt.  He has taken official visits to Maryland and Providence and unofficial visits to NC State and Wake Forest.

2023 6-1 Quentin Houston of Legion Collegiate was at USC Saturday for the Gamecocks’ Elite Camp.

2023 6-4 Marquavious Brown of Covington, GA also visited USC Saturday for the camp.
