South Carolina’s lineup continued its run of havoc, Tuesday, reaching base 26 times in a 19-8 victory at Winthrop. Much of the offense came from an unlikely source as Joe Satterfield, getting his first start of the season in place of the injured Jeff Heinrich, paced the Gamecocks with five RBI’s. Meanwhile, the heroes from the Clemson series, Brady Allen and Andrew Eyster, fell right back into rhythm. Allen provided plenty of pop from the leadoff spot, homering and driving in four runs. Eyster followed up his weekend dramatics with a home run and three RBI’s.
Mark Kingston again used a “committee” approach on the mound, employing eight pitchers. Starter Josiah Sightler (1-0) was the only Gamecocks hurler to work more than an inning, earning the win after giving up one run in three innings.
The Gamecocks (7-0) will put their winning streak on the line when Mercer visits Founders Park for a weekend series. Game 1 is 7 p.m., Friday.
