#STRecruiting: Hattley set for a Tuesday afternoon announcement

Another of USC’s targets is set to announce his college commitment Tuesday at 3:00 PM with a release on Twitter. LB Chase Hattley (6-3 205) made his decision from a final three of USC, NC State and Oklahoma. He’s known the decision since Thursday and has shared that information with his family, coach, some close friends and the school he will attend.

“I’m 100 percent with my choice and I’m happy with it and happy to create things where I’m going,” Hattley said. “I feel good.  You could say I’m relieved.  It was a long journey, probably started the end of my junior year is probably when I started getting on peoples’ radar.”

Hattley said what won him over to the school he chose was the feeling he got from the coaches during the recruiting process.

“Just the way they recruited me, you can really feel the ’21 class is different,” Hattley said.  “Just the way the coaches and the coaching staff talked to me.  I think I’ll have a good opportunity to play early in the position that they want me to play.  I think that’s a benefit for me.  I think that they way they described the position really opened my eyes and appealed to me.”

Hattley plays safety for his high school and had 9 interceptions last season. But his body style will allow him to be a hybrid between a safety and a linebacker.

“What they liked was my size, speed and being very agile,” Hattley said.  “Having the length to get in there to knock the ball down and do all those special things that I guess a person at my size can do at that position.”

Hattley has some ties to USC. His sister is a graduate and she is engaged to former Gamecock cornerback Rashad Fenton. He has made multiple visits to the USC campus, as he has to nearby NC State.

Hattley also had offers from Florida State, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Toledo, Old Dominion, James Madison, Richmond and Western Carolina.
