#5-UNC 12 — Clemson 5 (Game Summary)
- After utilizing a squeeze bunt in the 14th inning to knock off the Tigers on Saturday, North Carolina flexed its offensive muscle to take the series on Sunday. The Tarheels hit two home runs and three doubles and banged out sixteen hits to post the 12-5 win. The key to UNC’s success, according to CU HC Erik Bakich, was getting the lead-off batter on base in each of the first eight innings
- The offensive barrage started in the first as UNC’s Gavin Gallaher hit a two-run shot to left center field that put the Tarheels up 2-0
- Clemson responded with a Jason Fultz RBI double to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second. However, that was as close as the Tigers would get as UNC broke things open in the fourth
- UNC led off the decisive inning with a pair of base hits, one of which was a line drive off of starting pitcher Drew Titsworth, which knocked the RHP out of the game. The visitors then feasted on Clemson’s bullpen, scoring five runs in the inning with the big blow coming off the bat of Owen Hull. His three-run homer gave UNC a 7-1 lead
- The Tigers got back to within 10-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Bryce Clavon delivered a two-run triple, followed by an RBI single from Nate Savoie. Savoie struggled the last two games of the series against UNC, going just 1-of-12 on the weekend, after pounding out three hits in Clemson’s 9-5 win on Friday
- North Carolina plated a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to record the final 12-5 tally
- Eight pitchers appeared in the game for Clemson with Titsworth suffering the loss. North Carolina utilized four pitchers with Folger Boaz picking up the win
- Clutch hitting was absent for both teams over the weekend as the squads combined to strand 32 base runners on Saturday and 27 on Sunday
- The Tigers open a four-game road trip this Tuesday in Charlotte against the 49ers. The first pitch is set for 6:05pm at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. Clemson visits Virginia this weekend
