- David Dixon hit the game-winning three-pointer from the corner with eight seconds remaining to give Christ Church a 52-49 victory over Fox Creek in the Class 3A boys state championship Friday afternoon.
- It was just the second three-pointer of the game for the Cavaliers but it was the most important. Fox Creek tied the score at 49 with 26 seconds remaining on a three-pointer by Keori Atwell. Christ Church raced back down the court and Dixon received a pass from Reid Hipp right in front of the Cavaliers bench. He jumped to make the catch but then fired the dagger at the Predators.
- Fox Creek had one time out remaining but elected to keep playing and its three from the top of the key was off the mark.
- It was Christ Church’s third state title in the last four seasons and the fourth overall for Cavaliers coach John Butler.
- “I was scared but if I would have had to have anybody shoot that three, it would be David Dixon,” Butler said. “We have seven seniors and for four or five of them, this was their third state championship. It was definitely exciting to see them close out the game.”
- It was a defensive struggle throughout. It was tied at 23 at the half and both teams were playing lockdown defense. Chris Church (26-1) led by seven, but the Predators (25-7) stayed within striking distance.
- Dixon led the way with 12 points for the victors with Jonathan Perry checking in with 10 points. Fox Creek got 13 points from Randy Robinson.
