- Clemson lefthander Michael Sharman pitched the game of his life, limiting South Carolina to four hits a rare complete game outing. Sharman needed only 78 pitches to complete the task, with 67 going for strikes. Sharman never reached three balls on any Gamecock batter.
- Sharman got all the offense he needed in the bottom of the third. After the Gamecocks managed their only real contact against him with a Will Craddock double followed by an Ethan Lizama RBI single for a 1-0 lead, Nate Savoie changed the trajectory of the game with one swing. With runners on second and third with one out, Savoie blasted a three-run homer to left, his fourth of the season, off USC starter and loser Amp Phillips (1-1).
- The Tigers tacked on a final run in the bottom of the fourth on a bases loaded sacrifice fly by Jarren Purify for a 4-1 lead.
- Sharman allowed just two base runners the rest of the way, one on a single and one on an error by his shortstop. Sharman retired the Gamecocks in order in five of his nine innings in tossing Clemson’s first complete game since 2024.
- Phillips pitched into the fourth inning and gave up four earned runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked two. Brandon Stone went the rest of the way and was very effective shutting out the Tigers on three hits.
- The series is 1-1 s it shifts to Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday. Clemson will start lefthanded Talan Bell while the Gamecocks will go with righthander Riley Goodman.
- Clemson is now 9-1 on the season and the Gamecocks are 7-4.
