STRecruiting: South Carolina lands second commitment for 2027 class in CB Aamaury Fountain of Georgia

With all eyes focused Friday on the Transfer Portal, South Carolina coach Shane Beamer did some recruiting the old fashion way with a commitment from a high school prospect. CB Aamaury Fountain (6-3 190) of Warner Robins, GA announced a commitment to the Gamecocks late Friday afternoon. He’s their second pledge for the 2027 class.

Fountain had been a quarterback much of his high school career before moving to cornerback for this season. He took to it like a fish to water, and Gamecock secondary coach Torrian Gray made him a top target.

“He said he likes how I’m long and I can cover ground,” Fountain said during the season.  “I think I’m an excellent cover guy.  I like shutting down their best receiver.  That’s just the type of person I am.  I like best on best match ups.  I’m always on the other team’s sideline, because their best receiver tends to always stay to their side, so I’m always over there.”

Fountain was in to see the Gamecocks play Clemson, and despite the loss, he had a great visit and saw a lot to like with the program that day.

“There are a couple of games they could have won, but you never know what’s going to happen in college football, but I like the way they operate,” Fountain said. “Their record doesn’t define them.”

Fountain also had offers from Duke, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Vanderbilt, Georgia, West Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, Alabama and Michigan.
