STRecruiting: LB Jalaythan Mayfield has another great experience on latest visit to South Carolina

LB Jalaythan Mayfield (6-1 215) of Lincolnton, NC saw two of his favorite teams play on Rivalry Weekend when he was in Columbia for the South Carolina-Clemson game. The Gamecocks have offered Mayfield while the Tigers hold him in high regard despite not yet offering.

The visit was the second of the season to Williams-Brice Stadium for Mayfield. He was also in for the SC State game.

“It was a great visit.  It’s always good to be back in Columbia.  I always enjoy my time there,” Mayfield said.  “You can probably see that by as many times as a I visit South Carolina.  Good to see a great game like that.  Clemson kind of pulled away at the end, but for the whole game it was close.  I just love to see the defense do their thing and play at a high level.  Rocky for them this season, but I believe in what they did last year.  I really trust what Coach (Clayton) White is doing there, and what Coach (Shane) Beamer is doing at South Carolina.  That’s a school that still remains a priority for me.”

Mayfield said he and White had a chance to talk about his future recruitment from him and why he’s a good fit for his defense.

“He was talking about getting me back up soon, in the spring and the summer, just to get around everyone more” Mayfield said.  “That’s already something I planned on doing, getting there for the spring and summer.  As for as the play style of the linebackers, a lot of blitzes, and the system that they run, that’s something I’m highly skilled at.  It definitely fits my play style.  Just heavy attack, downhill for the linebackers also suits me.  And the ability to get out in space and cover.  The amount they rotate their linebackers in and out gives me a chance to get in the rotation and see the field early as a freshman.”

Clemson also remains a school of high interest to him as he remains patient, waiting on that offer from the Tigers.

“Definitely a school that I want to keep close.  Definitely a school that I always grew up liking,” Mayfield said.  “Whenever the opportunity is presented to me from them, I’ll definitely act upon it.  As of now, nothing too deep with them.  That’s one of the schools that hasn’t offered, and I know how their system is.  Just being patient with their process, and just believing in what they believe in and see where it goes from there.”

This season, Mayfield also got to games at Clemson, Georgia, NC State, North Carolina, Florida and Miami. He also has offers from Missouri, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Penn State, Purdue, Nebraska, Indiana, Oregon, Texas A&M, Maryland, SMU, Ohio State, West Virginia, Alabama and Michigan.

This season, Mayfield has had 152 tackles with 26 tackles for loss and six sacks.
