STRecruiting: North Carolina placekicker drawing interest from South Carolina with Gamecocks losing kicker after season

Asher Holland

Senior William Joyce has stepped in and done a very good job kicking field goals and extra points for South Carolina this season. He’s 8-11 on field goals with a long of 49 yards, and he’s perfect on 21 extra points. But Joyce is a senior, so Shane Beamer and special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis have to figure out their plans for next season.

The Gamecocks have a very good punter in Mason Love, who can also placekick. They also have freshman Max Kelley in the program. The coaches might be satisfied with those two fighting for the job in the spring, or they could bring in more competition.

One kicker DeCamillis apparently likes is Asher Holland of Durham, NC. He’s a teammate of Gamecock defensive tackle commitment Noah Clark. Holland kicked for DeCamillis in camp last summer. He’s also been in this season for the Vanderbilt and Alabama games.

“Right now he’s saying he likes what he sees,” Holland said.  “He thinks I have a good leg and I have the capability to play, but they want to see how the season plays out to know where things are going.  See  how I develop and see if they are going to take a ’26 kicker or not.”

Holland recalled that his camp performance wasn’t great, but was good enough to get the coach’s attention.

“I would say it was like an OK day,” Holland said.  “It could have been better.  It wasn’t like absolutely terrible, but it could have been better.”

North Carolina A&T became his first offer last week, and he’s hopeful more will come in, like one from USC.

“I just want to play Division One ball,” Holland said.  “It doesn’t really matter where I go.  If South Carolina is where I end up going, that would be nice.”

Holland has also visited Appalachian State for a game this season.

In his three-year career at Jordan High, Holland is 13-22 on field goals with a long of 45 yards, and he is 158-166 on extra points. He’s also averaging 39.6 yards per punt with a long of 56 yards.
