South Carolina coach Shane Beamer told his quarterbacks Tuesday morning and then told the world Tuesday afternoon, LaNorris Sellers will be the starting quarterback going into the season a week from Saturday. Sellers was the starter coming out of spring practice and had to fend off challenges from transfers Robby Ashford and Davis Beville.
Beamer cited consistency as a major reason Sellers won the job again. He also likes his overall skills and poise. However, he added that he feels he has multiple quarterbacks who can win in the SEC. He said there won’t necessarily be packages in place for Ashford, but he believes there are multiple ways he will be able to help the team.
Beamer is calling this “Mock Week” as the team will go through the week replicating everything they will do next week going into the opener vs Old Dominion.
Notes from Beamer
- Floyd has a lower body issue but should be fine, Parks has an ankle and is doubtful for next week, both injured in the scrimmage, had one of their better practices this morning, efficient, physical, spirited, eager to play.
- Eleven days out he wants the QBs and WRs to continue to develop their connection, feel good about defense, working on depth in secondary especially safety and the corner behind Fortune
- Very high on Debo Williams and the way he plays the game; Bam Martin-Scott is another linebacker who has come on since last season, he’s put the work in and thinks he’s poised to have a really big year.
- WR Gage Larvadain has been dealing with some nagging injuries in camp and they have to get him full speed for the start of the season.
- Sellers has a lot of God given talent, he’s a winner, he’s a competitor, great poise and consistency, comes from a great family, a lot to like about him.
