USC MBB learns its SEC fate for 2024-25 #Gamecocks

In 2025, the Gamecocks will host six SEC teams that participated in the NCAA tournament last season

With the SEC baseball tournament right around the corner, the league took a moment on Monday to focus on the upcoming basketball season. The conference announced the SEC opponents for all sixteen teams, including Oklahoma and Texas. USC, fresh off a T-2nd finish in the SEC last year, will have home and home matchups with Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi State.

SEC action will start on Saturday, Jan. 4, and run through Saturday, March 8. Each SEC team plays the other 15 teams at least once during league play. Of the three home and home matchups for the Gamecocks, Georgia and Florida will serve as permanent opponents both home and away, with the third team rotating each season.

Of the team’s nine home games, Carolina will welcome six squads that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament to Colonial Life Arena in Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State, Texas, and Texas A&M.

USC has faced Texas just twice in its history, with a home and home against the Longhorns in Bill Foster’s first two seasons as head coach. The Gamecocks beat Texas 74-70 on December 23, 1980, at the Carolina Coliseum, with the Longhorns winning the rematch 88-71 in Austin on January 23, 1982.

Carolina’s road schedule is highlighted by trips to Kentucky, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. The visit to Norman will mark the Gamecocks third all-time and their first since December 10, 1992.

According to the SEC, the continuation and renewal of historic rivalries was a point of emphasis when creating the schedule as Oklahoma and Texas enter as new members. Additionally, preexisting home-and-away rotations for single-play opponents were preserved.

The league tournament returns to Nashville, Tenn., as Bridgestone Arena will host the event from March 12–16, 2025.
